CU Kitteridge Village; University of Colorado
Our goal was to reestablish a sense of community and oasis to Kittredge Village, fundamental to the original Hideo Sasaki Campus Master Plan, while addressing a number of contemporary site issues associated with the way students live and learn today. Taking or cues from the pattern language established by Sasaki we developed a hierarchy of active and passive outdoor spaces that accommodate a variety of academic, social, and ecological functions and events.
Village Green // the ribbon:
The heart of our proposal is “village green.” This is the gateway to and from campus to the north.
Just east of the green, the village lane slides between to the two sides of Kittredge Central, the activity center of the village.
The lane is defined by the “ribbon” – a meandering form of soft and hard surfaces, vertical and horizontal elements, designed to accommodate storm water during rain events as well as the flow and eddy of students throughout the day.
