The Freight Residences project is the TAXI Neighborhood’s newest project. The building’s surrounding landscape carefully combines private outdoor rooms, public shared play-scapes and porous landscape detention swales into an efficient yet artful arboreal setting that is equal parts garde and post industrial wild.
The overall landscape is conceived of as a patch work of wild grassland ribbons wrapping a faceted, turf land form for play and family recreation. In combination, both landscape types serve as a buffer, threshold, stormwater management, way finding, habitat, and event space.
The private areas, bound building, a drainage ribbon of grasses and cottonwoods, and gabion growing walls, provide livable outdoor rooms for the 1st floor tenants. A series of 8 steel bridges span the drainage ribbon allowing private access to the patio areas.
